Choosing an impact wrench

Choose torque by bolt size and application, and batteries by workload.

Check loosening torque first, then fastening torque

The torque needed to tighten a bolt is often much lower than the torque needed to loosen it. Corrosion, threadlocker and a long time since removal can significantly increase loosening torque. Choose an impact wrench for its ability to loosen the fastener, rather than relying only on the tightening specification.

LEIYU impact wrench model numbers indicate maximum torque: XLY-380 is 380 N·m, and XLY-2000 is 2000 N·m.

Common application guide

ApplicationCommon fastenersRecommended model
Everyday motorcycle and passenger car maintenanceSmall and medium boltsXLY-380 / XLY-600
Passenger car and SUV wheelsWheel nutsXLY-600
Light trucks, agricultural machinery and structural steelLarge bolts and corroded fastenersXLY-1000
Heavy trucks, coaches and construction machineryLarge wheel nutsXLY-2000

These are common pairings; use the bolt specifications in the vehicle or equipment manual as your reference. If unsure, send us the bolt specifications and application details.

Which bolt sizes each torque class handles

The table is compiled from the bolt ranges that makers of impact wrenches in the same class publish, matched by maximum (loosening) torque. Use it as a guide when choosing a model.

ModelMaximum torqueBolt sizes (guide)Typical use
XLY-380380 N·mM10-M16Motorcycles and small cars, installation and assembly
XLY-600600 N·mM10-M20Car and SUV tyre changes, everyday work in a car repair shop
XLY-10001000 N·mM12-M24Light trucks, agricultural machinery and structural steel
XLY-20002000 N·mM20-M30Wheel nuts on heavy trucks and buses (M22×1.5), construction machinery

Wheel nut tightening torque (guide)

VehicleTypical tightening torque
Passenger cars90-140 N·m
SUVs and off-road vehicles130-200 N·m
Heavy trucks and coaches (M22×1.5)550-680 N·m

A rusted nut, or one that has not been undone for a long time, can need more than twice its tightening torque to come off: for truck wheel nuts choose the XLY-2000, for light trucks the XLY-1000.

These are reference ranges, not LEIYU test data. How large a bolt a wrench can undo depends on the bolt strength grade, rust, the socket and the battery charge; a vehicle's tightening torque is given in its manual.

Choosing batteries

Impact wrenches draw high loads, so battery capacity directly affects the work you can do per charge. XLY-380 and XLY-600 are available with 4.0 Ah or 6.0 Ah batteries; XLY-1000 has 6.0 Ah as standard; XLY-2000 has 8.0 Ah as standard.

  • Occasional use or backup for repairs: 4.0 Ah is lighter and sufficient.
  • For repair workshops and tyre shops using tools daily: start with 6.0 Ah.
  • Fleets, construction sites and all-day fastening or removal: keep an extra battery for rotation.

LEIYU 21 V batteries fit all 21 V tools, so they remain interchangeable when you add drills, angle grinders and other tools.

Stocking guide

For hardware and auto parts stores, 380 and 600 models suit individual users and small repair businesses; 1000 is common in repair workshops and agricultural machinery applications; 2000 suits truck tyre shops and construction machinery repairs. A new store can start with one carton of each and adjust the mix after two months based on actual sales.
